Paint Correction in San Diego
Machine polishing that removes swirls, scratches, and oxidation permanently — down to the level of clarity your paint deserves.
What it is
The reset your paint needs before anything permanent goes on.
Paint correction is the process of mechanically removing defects from your vehicle's clear coat using abrasive compounds and polishes applied with a machine polisher. Swirl marks, fine scratches, water-spot etching, and oxidation are permanently removed from the clear coat surface — not filled or masked, removed. The result is a finish that reflects light correctly and evenly, the way the paint looked before it accumulated damage.
This is the required step before any ceramic coating or PPF installation. Applying a ceramic coating over defects magnifies every swirl mark under direct lighting — the high-gloss enhancement makes imperfections more visible, not less. Every Apex ceramic package includes paint correction appropriate to the tier. If you're bringing us a vehicle that's had previous coating or detailing, we assess paint condition and correct accordingly.
Paint correction is a one-time reset, not ongoing maintenance. After correction, the right answer is a coating or film that prevents new defects from forming. We'll make that recommendation based on your vehicle and use case.

What we correct
Common paint defects, explained.
Swirl marks
Automated car washes, improper hand washing technique, cheap microfiber towels. The most common defect we correct.
Fine scratches
Light contact — keys, rings, sleeve buttons, gas pump hoses, bushes. Visible under direct lighting, not through the clear coat.
Water spot etching
Hard water minerals left on paint in San Diego's dry climate. Etch into the clear coat if not removed promptly. Common on daily drivers.
Oxidation
UV degradation of the clear coat over time. Appears as haze, chalky texture, or loss of depth. Common on vehicles without garage storage.
Buffer trails
Caused by improper or aggressive previous machine polishing. Holographic, web-like patterns visible in direct light.
Light contaminant etching
Bird droppings, tree sap, industrial fallout. Can etch through the clear coat if left too long. Severity depends on dwell time.
