What it is

Painted Wheels & Calipers at Apex Auto Studio.

Caliper and wheel painting is the detail that separates a complete build from one that's almost there. Most factory calipers are a flat gray that disappears behind the wheel. A color-matched or contrasting caliper — properly painted and heat-cured — turns a functional component into a visual anchor. We use high-temperature automotive-grade paint rated for the thermal cycling that brake calipers see in real-world driving, not rattle-can products that peel after one heat cycle.

The process begins with removal. Calipers are pulled off the vehicle, fully cleaned, and chemically stripped of old paint, brake dust, and grease before any new product is applied. Surface prep is where most DIY caliper jobs fail — skipping it means the paint won't adhere through sustained heat. After prep, we apply primer, color coats, and a high-temp clear, then cure at elevated temperature before reinstalling. Wheels follow a similar protocol: dismounting from the tire, sandblasting or chemical stripping if needed, full prep, paint, clear, and remount.

For clients who've just had a paint correction or ceramic coating done, painted calipers and wheels are a natural complement — they make the exterior consistent at every angle. We also recommend coating the newly painted calipers and wheels with a ceramic layer to protect the finish from brake dust bonding, which is among the most aggressive contamination a wheel surface sees.
